Acne, pimples or zits are a common skin condition that often affects teenagers, but can occur at any age in males and females of all ethnicities. Unfortunately, it can often cause a lot of embarrassment and distress. There are numerous over the counter treatments, mostly products containing benzyl peroxide. If your acne is not improving, you are getting scarring or are not happy with your skin, please see your GP to discuss other treatments which might include:

  • Topical antibiotic creams or retinoid creams
  • Oral antibiotics
  • Hormonal medication eg. the contraceptive pill
  • Isotretinoin / Roaccutane - the GP will refer suitable patients to a dermatologist for assessment

Your GP can discuss appropriate cleansing and moisturising products as well as order any investigations if necessary.
