Next Practice Deakin has been in the making for over a year and we’re thrilled to be offering the Canberra community a new kind of care. We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about reimaging healthcare.
We are driven by our own unique purpose: to make a meaningful and positive difference to people’s lives. To achieve this means we care about the whole person, not just the condition. We care about prevention and wellness. We care about community and society. We believe no one should needlessly suffer from health issues, particularly those that are preventable. That’s why for every private consultation with our doctors at Next Practice Deakin, our 'NextAid' initiative will deliver a vaccine to a child in the developing world.
How are we different?
We believe that each time you visit our general practice you should feel as comfortable in the waiting area as you do in your own home. That’s why we call our waiting area, the living room. It is an environment designed to make you feel comfortable with a focus on wellness through its zen-like design.
Modern healthcare needs are complex and our focus on prevention and ‘ageing well’ means as you grow older (and we all do) we want to work with you to help you live and be as well as you can. Whether you’re a toddler growing up to become a child, a child to become a teenager, a young healthy adult, a forty something or an older person - we want to help you realise your goals and support your wellbeing. We believe this cannot be achieved with one healthcare professional alone, it needs a team of healthcare professionals. That’s why our floor plans are designed such that when you are seen at Next Practice Deakin, you’re at the centre. You have your room for the duration you are with us and our team that supports your care will come to you. Central to this team is the patient advocate, the person there to support you in your health journey through the practice and the health neighbourhood if needed.
Technology has a wonderful potential to help deliver better care. We have embraced technology in a purposeful way in how we deliver care. When you arrive at the practice, your patient advocate will support you. They will furnish you with an iPad to help capture and understand what’s important to you before you see our clinicians. In the consultation room you will see a large screen on the walls, so your doctor can share personally curated information about your health condition and how to look after yourself between visits.
It doesn’t stop there though. As a patient of Next Practice Deakin, you have access to our app. This connects with your medical record. The app will show you your appointments, medications, referral letters, pathology results, as well as the specially curated information your doctor may have used, and of course the ability to consult with us via Telehealth. We believe that Telehealth is a great means of providing care combined with face-to-face appointments when necessary. That’s why we believe we not only serve the Deakin community but also the broader Canberra community, as Telehealth extends our reach to you wherever you may live in Canberra. For more information on Telehealth please watch the Next Practice video on telehealth here.
What we do?
What we do is provide primary health care. How we do that though is different - through a team and technology in partnership with you and with our own unique purpose that drives us so we can deliver better health for you, for your family, for our community in Canberra and our global family in the developing world.
So, we are thrilled to be open, to start our journey to achieving our purpose, and welcoming you to a new kind of care, the next type of care at Next Practice Deakin.
