Nelum graduated from the University of Aberdeen, UK in 1995. She worked in several hospitals in the north of England, during which she gained invaluable experience and qualifications in a multitude of medical specialities. Nelum completed her General Practice training in 2001. She was a partner in a General Practice in Manchester, UK for 7 years prior to moving to Brisbane in 2009.
Nelum is an experienced GP in all aspects of General Practice. Her special interests are in Women’s Health, Contraception (including Mirena/Kyleena/Implanon insertion & removal ) and Chronic Disease Management through her Metabolic Health clinic. Nelum has been involved in training GP’s on Mirena/Kyleena insertion over the past 5 years.
Nelum is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of her patients through nutrition and lifestyle. Her own health journey has inspired her to learn all she can on this subject. This has lead to a deep understanding of the key role that the hormone insulin plays in weight regulation, metabolic health and in the pathogenesis of nearly all chronic disease. She is a strong advocate of a low carb, healthy fat, whole food lifestyle which she considers essential for reversing insulin resistance.
