The power of plants

Indoor plants are a beautiful addition to any space, but apart from their aesthetic, they can help to reduce the rising levels of indoor air pollution in our homes. In 1989, NASA published a study titled “Interior Landscape Plants for Indoor Air Pollution Abatement” outlining that plants have an ability to absorb harmful gasses, such as formaldehyde, benzene, triclorethylene, carbon monoxide, pesticides and disinfectants whilst cleaning the air and reducing many of the symptoms that can develop from these pollutants including allergies, headaches, nervous system disorders and fatigue (see https://go.nasa.gov/2elRVnv)

Here is a list of 10 plants that have beneficial air purifying benefits;

  1. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii)
  2. Devil's Ivy (Epipremnum aureum)
  3. Mother-in-Law's Tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata)
  4. English Ivy (Hedera helix)
  5. Lady Palm (Rhapis excelsa)
  6. Weeping Fig (Ficus benjamina)
  7. Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata)
  8. Dwarf Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii)
  9. Areca Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens)
  10. Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)
