This July, our team at Next Practice is proudly supporting Emily Somers and her incredible mission to raise awareness and funds for sarcoma research through the Great Sarcoma Plankathon.

Meet Emily:
Emily ( @braveryco ) is a Melbourne-based designer, speaker, and three-time cancer survivor. In 2019, she was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. It was her third cancer diagnosis

As Emily shares:

“When I was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma, the chat with my oncologist was wildly different compared to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma — a cancer that now has many treatment options and an exceptionally high cure rate. But some sarcomas haven’t seen treatment advances in over 40 years.”

That’s why Emily is planking — to raise awareness and critical funds for @anzsarcoma to help drive life-changing research. And we’re right behind her. 💪

What is the Sarcoma Plankathon?
It’s a national fundraiser where teams and individuals commit to planking during July (Sarcoma Awareness Month) — whether it’s 1 minute, 10 minutes, or a full hour in relay. It’s fun, inclusive, and a powerful way to support those affected by sarcoma.

Why It Matters:
Sarcoma accounts for about 1% of adult cancers but 20% of childhood cancers — yet funding and research lag behind. This campaign brings much-needed attention to sarcoma and the urgent need for more treatment options.
