What to do if I wake up with covid-19 symptoms?


You only need to have one of the below symptoms to qualify for testing.

Firstly, what are covid-19 Symptoms?

Most common symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Tiredness
  • Runny nose

Less common symptoms:

  • aches and pains
  • sore throat
  • diarrhoea
  • conjunctivitis
  • headache
  • loss of taste or smell
  • a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes

Serious symptoms:

  • difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • chest pain or pressure
  • loss of speech or movement

Seek immediate medical attention (call 000) if you have any serious symptoms.

On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days.

At the onset of any symptom it’s important to self-isolate. We can provide initial medical advice over the phone or via a video consult. Our doctors can answer your questions, concerns and give next-step advice tailored to you. Medical certificates and prescriptions can be mailed out to you.

To rule out covid-19 a test is required. In addition, health advice from your GP can assist with a speedy recovery.

I got a negative result but still feel unwell.

Once Covid-19 has been ruled out but you’re still have symptoms we recommend a follow up consult with your doctor via phone or telehealth. With the knowledge of a negative test a follow up discussion with your GP can help to decide whether coming into the clinic for a physical examination is necessary.
