George Somers has been a general practitioner since 1976. He was born in Holland, and brought up in Monbulk and Tecoma.
George built his solo GP practice in the Dandenong Ranges (Emerald, Victoria) in 1981. He has since expanded this to a 10 GP practice.
In 2000 he commenced a PhD on medical students’ attitudes toward a rural career, and taught for 5 years at Monash University, School of Rural Health, where he was appointed Associate Professor.
He currently sits on several GP advisory boards including the RACGP and SEMPHN. He continues as Associate Professor with Monash University, School of Rural Health, Churchill.
