Don’t forget your seasonal flu shot!

It’s that time of the year again and if you haven’t already, it’s important to get yourself and the family vaccinated.

Last year, Australia experienced an early and vicious flu season. It’s that time of the year again and if you haven’t already, it’s important to get yourself and the family vaccinated. Not only is it one of the ways to prevent the seasonal flu, it can help reduce the strain on the healthcare system.

Who should get vaccinated?

The Government recommends everyone over the age of 6 months to get immunised against seasonal flu.

Why should I get vaccinated?

Vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect yourself. The benefits go beyond you too. Getting a flu shot also means you help to protect others, including those who are too sick or too young to be vaccinated, as well as vulnerable groups.

*How much does it cost?

Flu vaccinations at Next Practice Sydney cost $20 out of pocket per person unless you are eligible for one of the government funded vaccines**. This is available to Medicare Holders only.

**Who's eligible for a free vaccine?

Under the Government's National Immunisation Program, there are some people that are eligible for a free flu vaccine because they are most at risk. This includes:

• Children aged six months to five years

• Pregnant women

• People aged 65 years and over

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over

• People aged six months and over with medical conditions that mean they have a higher risk of flu complications
