Iron Infusion Clinic at Next Practice Sydney

Iron is an essential mineral for our bodies that helps with energy production, oxygen transportation, cognitive function and immune function.

Low iron can cause fatigue, weakness and loss of concentration. Are you feeling tired and drained? Are Iron supplements not agreeing with you or not helping with raising your iron levels? An iron infusion may be your answer.

An iron infusion is a procedure where iron is introduced directly into your blood stream through an IV cannula.

Iron Infusion Process

1. Initial GP Consultation

Book an appointment with one of our General Practitioners to discuss your symptoms. If clinically appropriate, the doctor will provide a pathology request to assess your iron levels.

2. Blood Testing and Assessment

Proceed with blood tests to evaluate your iron levels. If the results indicate iron deficiency and an infusion is medically indicated, your GP will discuss the treatment plan with you and provide a prescription.

3. Iron Infusion Procedure

The iron infusion is administered in our dedicated treatment room under the supervision of a GP and a registered nurse. The appointment typically takes 45–60 minutes. Please bring your prescribed iron medication with you on the day of the procedure.

4. Follow-Up Testing

A follow-up blood test will be arranged a few weeks after the infusion to assess effectiveness of the infusion and ensure iron levels have normalised.

Have you received a referral for an Iron Infusion elsewhere?

We are happy to see patients who are referred by their usual GP outside our clinic. All we'll need is your current blood test results (Full Blood Count, Iron Studies) and a referral. Please call us on (02) 8311 3580 or email us at sydney@nextpracticehealth.com for more information.
